Study Abroad seeks liaison applicants
Deadline to apply is Oct. 31
The International Studies Department is now accepting applications for International Studies Liaisons for the 2019 Study Abroad programs. Deadline to apply is Oct. 31, 2018. The Study Abroad program will travel to England, Denmark, Poland, Italy, Greece, South Africa, and Peru May 6-14, 2019.
International Studies Specialist Jessica Miller says liaisons play a vital role in the study abroad program as they provide crucial support for both the participating students and faculty members. “We are looking for individuals who are organized, motivated, and committed to the mission of Study Abroad,” Miller said. “Liaisons help students develop a positive outlook on international travel and education, all while benefiting from a travel experience of their own that is informative, exciting, and entertaining.”
While abroad, liaisons will serve as chaperones on excursions, help keep track of student movements and accommodations, manage trip finances and help maintain group morale.
Liaisons must obtain approval for travel from their immediate supervisor prior to trip departure and attend orientation and emergency response and general liaison training sessions during the spring 2019 semester. Upon return, liaisons will complete the travel claim and help review the trip’s budget.
Interested faculty and staff can pick up an application in the International Studies Office in the Macon Cove Campus Academic Building, Room MAB139. Faculty members who want their students to learn more about Study Abroad are encouraged to schedule Miller to visit their class for a 15-minute presentation at jtmiller6@southwest.tn.edu.
Selected candidates should be aware that commencement may occur during the travel week and therefore affect their participation in the ceremony. For more Study Abroad information, contact Jessica Miller at 901-333-4087 or jtmiller6@southwest.tn.edu.
