Southwest students were celebrated for their outstanding academic achievements at the Student Honors and Awards Convocation ceremony held on April 16, 2024 at the Verties Sails Gymnasium.

The event featured keynote speaker President Tracy D. Hall and other campus leaders.

“We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on the incredible achievements of our outstanding students here at Southwest Tennessee Community College. These remarkable individuals have excelled in their academic pursuits and have demonstrated exceptional leadership within our campus community,” Hall said.

“Whether through their performance in classes, impactful contributions to campus organizations, or unwavering commitment to their educational journey, these students have truly left a lasting mark on our Southwest family.”

Deans of the College’s three division distributed awards to more than 230 students representing Business and Technologies, Allied Health and Natural Sciences, and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Mathematics. Several students also received leadership and service awards for their work within peer campus organizations.

The event wrapped up with an announcement of new Phi Theta Kappa international honor society inductees and closing remarks from Dr. Hall.

Harris plans to attend the nursing program at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis after completing his Southwest degree.

“It’s an honor to receive this award. I’ve put in a lot of hard work and made sacrifices, missing spending time with family, while completing the program. It was worth it and I’m excited for this next chapter in my life,” Harris said.
