Welcome from the President

Dr. Tracy D. HallDear Students,

As we begin a new academic year, I find myself reflecting on the Olympics —a global event that showcases the power of determination, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence. Just like the athletes who inspire us with their dedication andresilience, each of us at Southwest is part of a team committed to supporting one another in achieving our goals.

As one of the greatest Olympic champions of all time, gymnast Simone Biles wisely said, “Practice creates confidence. Confidence empowers you." Whether you are a new or returning student embarking on your academic journey, embracing this spirit of determination is a powerful path to achieving remarkable success.

Over the summer, the college encountered an unprecedented cybersecurity incident that may have caused some technical issues for you. We are navigating through the challenges this event presented and appreciate your patience. I want to assure you that your safety and privacy remain our highest priorities. Our IT team has implemented enhanced security measures and is diligently working to restore our systems to full functionality.

Despite this hurdle, the new academic year brings exciting opportunities. Southwest remains at the forefront of innovation, continuously enhancing and elevating its curriculum with new, cutting-edge programs that enrich the educational experience and empower our students. Our offerings range from short-term certificates that provide immediate workplace entry to associate degrees that lay the foundation for a successful career or seamless transfer to a four-year university.

I encourage you to get involved in campus activities, seek out your academic community, join student organizations, and participate in events that build connections and foster your growth. These experiences are the training ground that can instill the confidence and skills needed to succeed.

As we move forward into this academic year, let’s carry the Olympic spirit in our hearts—embracing hard work, discipline, and the courage to strive for excellence. Together, as part of the Southwest team, we can overcome challenges and make this year truly memorable.
