SWSC will provide students seamless career pathways between non-credit and credit courses through responsive, in-demand career-tech education;
Embed certificates within coursework to provide students with immediate entry into the workforce or toward a degree and transfer to a 4-year college;
Focus on aligning career and technical education programs with workforce development and academic programs; and
Remove barriers for students and support them where they are in life leading to promising careers and greater economic and social mobility.

PARTNERING WITH INDUSTRY AND COMMUNITIES
SWSC extends the workforce development work of the college to align programs with the marketplace needs of businesses and organizations across Memphis, the Mid-South and Tennessee;
Partners with industry and organizations to level up the skills needed for today’s jobs and those of the future;
Addresses unique industry needs through customized training and essential (soft) skills training;
Assists in upskilling workers and reducing state and local workforce shortages; and
Moves communities forward. More than more 94% of Southwest graduates remain in the area after graduation. With more than 110 areas of study and 150 credentials to choose from, the Center will be a premiere workforce engine for Memphis and beyond.

KEY STRATEGIES FOR IMPLEMENTATION
SWSC will focus on high-demand careers and target opportunity youth, the unemployed and underemployed, and those in underserved areas, while adhering to its access, completion, and equity mission. Southwest is committed to helping to achieve Tennessee’s statewide educational attainment goal to achieve 55 percent of adult Tennesseans with a postsecondary credential by 2025. To meet this goal, Southwest has established three key strategies that align with the mission of the Center:
