Campus Activity Board (CAB)
The Campus Activity Board (CAB) provides diverse quality programs that will enhance the student's educational experience.
CAB offers on-campus entertainment, cultural and arts events, student organizations and clubs, and discounted tickets to sports, arts and cultural events in the Memphis community.
At Southwest, each student taking credit courses is required to pay a student activity fee. The student activity fee provides financial support for events and programs at Southwest that enhance campus life. A portion of that fee goes to CAB.
CAB board members consider proposed events and vote to either approve or disapprove each event and its funding. At the end of each academic year, student activities will be responsible for an annual report reflecting funding distribution outcomes along with recommendations from CAB.
Student Activity Fee Budget
This is how the student activity fees are allocated:
- 57% – campus-wide programming administered by CAB
- 24% – student organization funding
- 14% – student government funding
- 5% – student newspaper
Students who take part in CAB will engage in a comprehensive training program, including team building, fiscal management and campus operations.
One CAB goal is to provide students with a competitive edge. It will be the result of skills they develop and experience they encounter in this cutting-edge program.
- Career and leadership development
- Conflict resolution development and experience
- Critical thinking development and experience
- Meeting new people of diverse backgrounds
- Making a difference in campus life
- Building networking skills with campus and community organizations
