PROVIDE IT

Military Credit

If you have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, your military education and training may qualify for college credit at Southwest Tennessee Community College.

You can request a Joint Services Transcript (JST) to be sent directly to your Southwest advisor or the Records Office. Your transcript will be evaluated to determine whether your military training or occupational specialty aligns with required courses in your chosen degree or certificate program.

Many Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) and training programs have already been reviewed for credit equivalence at Tennessee institutions.

Training Credit

Many employers, trade associations, and professional organizations offer formal training programs that have been evaluated for college-level credit by national review agencies such as the American Council on Education (ACE) or the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS).

If you’ve completed approved corporate or industry training, you may be eligible to receive college credit toward your Southwest degree or certificate. Provide an official transcript or documentation verifying completion of the training for evaluation.

You can also review pre-evaluated training pathways through Southwest’s Training and Certification Crosswalk, with Southwest courses and show how much credit may be awarded.

Certification Credit

Southwest Tennessee Community College recognizes the value of professional certifications and licenses that reflect verified college-level learning. If you hold an industry-recognized certification that has been reviewed and approved as equivalent to Southwest coursework, you may be eligible to receive college credit toward your degree or certificate.

Examples include certifications in areas such as business, healthcare, information technology, and skilled trades.

Southwest follows Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) guidelines for assessing military credit, assessing prior learning and recognizes credit recommendations from ACE when applicable. We may also consider certification equivalencies evaluated through the American Council on Education (ACE).
