Two Southwest scholars were among 51 top honor society students celebrated for their stellar accomplishments at the Tennessee Board of Regents’ (TBR) 2022 annual Student Honors Luncheon on March 30 in Nashville. The annual luncheon salutes top-achieving members of Phi Theta Kappa  (PTK) and the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS).

Mitchell Grimm and Connor Taylor, both Phi Theta Kappa members, were presented medallions and certificates signifying their outstanding achievements in the classroom. Taylor graduated in May 2022 with an A.S. in psychology, and Grimm completed his A.A.S. in paralegal studies in December 2021.

“Dr. Melanie Jones and I are so pleased to have had our PTK President, Connor Taylor, representing our organization and our college at the recent SOARS luncheon in Nashville," Southwest’s PTK Advisor Doug Branch said. "We will be even prouder when Connor, with his intelligence, work-ethic, good manners and intellectual curiosity, represents PTK as he furthers his formal education and continues to develop as a productive citizen of the world."

Southwest Director of Student Development Phoenix Worthy said, “As an adult learner, Mitchell has always been extremely focused on his academic journey. He has demonstrated outstanding leadership and maintains a clear sense of purpose. Mitchell possesses the ability to make adjustments midterm of any situation and complete the task with little to no supervision.”

During the ceremony, Dr. Russ Denton, TBR executive vice chancellor for policy and strategy, said, “For all of you, your presence here today means that you have already achieved a level of excellence that demands attention and led to your induction into these two honor societies. The academic and technical skills that you have demonstrated will serve you well – regardless of whether you’re planning on continuing your studies at a university – or going straight into your new careers.”

Congratulations, Mitchell and Connor!
