CAREER SERVICES CORNER: C.H. Robinson intern Roderick Jones lands position
Career Services Director Brenda Williams and staff present Career Services Corner, a periodic column spotlighting student interns, employment opportunities, new partnerships, special events and other career-related news.
This inaugural column features intern Rodrick Jones, a business major who recently completed a paid internship with Fortune 500 company C.H. Robinson.
Jones is on track to graduate from Southwest this spring with an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration. He plans to pursue a bachelor’s in business administration with an emphasis in accounting at the University of Memphis in the fall.
Jones enjoyed his internship at C.H. Robinson so much and performed so well that the company hired him on full time as an operations representative. “C.H. Robinson is a great company to work for,” he said of the international company that is one of the world’s largest third party logistic providers, delivering supply chain solutions to more than 124,000 customers. “We ship materials all over the world,” Jones said.
Jones says the skills and knowledge of the industry he learned at Southwest, helped him succeed. “My classes in MS Office and Introduction to Business and Accounting gave me an understanding of different parts of the business and everyday terms being used in this company,” he said. “Paying attention to detail and studying hard were good tools, too!”
Jones’ internship responsibilities at C.H. Robinson included responding to customer requests; entering, auditing and tracking shipments; and resolving invoice issues.
He enjoys the company culture and says it supports his academic goals. “It is a friendly environment. We celebrate events and holidays and the leadership is always looking for ways to motivate the employees.”
Congratulations, Rodrick!
