Southwest Saluqi basketball wraps up season with awards
Another Saluqi basketball season is in the books. There are several reasons to believe that the future is bright in terms of accomplishments and awards.
Cedric Henderson Jr. named All-TCCAA Freshman of the Year
Cedric Henderson Jr. led Southwest Tennessee Community College’s men’s basketball team in scoring (17.9), assists (3.6) and steals (1.9) per game this season and was selected Tennessee Community College Athletic Association’s (TCCAA) Freshman of the Year and All-TCCAA First Team. He was the only Saluqi voted to either the first or second team. Henderson had an outstanding season, scoring in double figures in all 25 games and was among team leaders with a 74.4 free throw percentage, 50.6 field goal percentage and 37.3 three-point percentage. His game-high score was 26 points against Missouri State-West Plains.
Congratulations, Cedric!

Lady Saluqi basketball players scored big wins with sophomore forward Takya Bennett and freshman guard Tia Bland who were selected to the All-TCCAA First Team. Bland also was voted the conference’s Freshman of the Year.

Bennett scored at least 20 points 9 times and 30 points three times, including a career-high 35 against Wallace State in the Lady Saluqi Classic. Bland scored in double-figures 17 times and scored a game high of 20 points against both Roane State and Motlow State.
Sophomores Tamia Curry and Candace Gaines, a forward and guard respectively, were selected to the All-TCCAA Second Team. Curry led the Lady Saluqis with 2.3 blocked shots per game and was among team leaders with averages of 13.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
