Welcome Aboard: Muinat Abolore Idris
Muinat Abolore Idris joins the Physical Plant Department as the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator. She is a certified occupational hearing conservationist and a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
Idris was born in Ogun State, Nigeria, where she completed a Bachelor of Science in biology education in 2008 from Olabisi Onabanjo University. She also served in the National Youth Service Corps.
After obtaining her undergraduate degree, Idris began her career in the primary health care sector in 2010 where she worked as an assistant pharmacist. Excited about a career in public health, she completed a post-graduate diploma in forensic biology in 2012 from the University of Lagos.
Throughout her education and career, Idris developed a passion for promoting healthy and safe environments. Her keen interest in reducing the occurrence of work-related injuries and illnesses fueled her drive to obtain a Master of Public Health (MPH) with a major in environmental and occupational health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2018. During her MPH program, Idris worked as an environmental health and safety research assistant at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She also worked as an occupational health and safety student researcher at Tyson Foods’ Omaha bacon plant for her capstone experience, where she observed the plant’s hearing conservation program.
In her new position, Idris is charged with ensuring Southwest is compliant with all federal, state, and local regulations governing environmental, health and safety standards. She will be the go-to resource for regulatory technical support, education, outreach, and training for faculty, staff and students.
