EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH: Business and Technologies Secretary Karen Taylor
Congratulations to the Employee of the Month, Division of Business and Technologies Secretary Karen Taylor!
Taylor became secretary in 1993, though she began her employment at Southwest 27 years ago. Taylor reports to Dean Robin Cole and oversees the scheduling of appointments between students, staff and faculty, assists with reports and is the liaison for interdepartmental communications.
Taylor was selected and nominated by her fellow employees for her efficient work practices, diligence to get the job done, cheerful attitude, and infectious smile. According to the division’s staff, Taylor keeps everyone on track and is always willing to learn new ways and programs to improve departmental operations. One co-worker mentioned how Karen helped shoulder her workload when her husband became ill. Another staff person said Karen also is generous in helping students solve any issues they may have. Fellow staff agreed: “Karen is a wonderful division secretary to everyone in our area — you can count on her assistance and you can always count on her friendly and cheerful hello every morning.”
“I am completely surprised by this award and thankful at the same time,” Taylor said. “I appreciate everyone who nominated me, and I appreciate this opportunity to be recognized for my service and commitment to the College.”
Each nominee is reviewed by a committee representing the Professional Administrative Staff Organization (PASO) and Support Staff Organization (SSO), in conjunction with the Department of Human Resources. Award winners receive free breakfast or lunch for a week from The Taste at Southwest, a reserved parking space of choice on his/her main campus for an entire calendar month (parking restrictions may apply) and are featured in the Southwest Scoop.
