Southwest Tennessee Community College Basketball Teams to Compete in Region Tournament at the Verties Sails Gymnasium

Southwest Tennessee Community College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will compete for conference championships and national tournament berths in the 2025 TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament March 7-11 at the Verties Sails Gymnasium on the College’s Union Avenue Campus. 

The Southwest women, under the direction of Head Coach Andrea Martre, enter the tournament with a 13-11 overall record. As the 7th seed, the Lady Saluqis will play 10th seed Motlow State in a first-round game at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 7. The winner will take on 2nd seed Columbia State in the quarterfinal game at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 8.

Projected starters for the Lady Saluqis are sophomore forwards Jaliyah Zackery (15.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game) and Jernesha Clark (4.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game), sophomore wing Latonya Bobo (4.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game), and freshman guards Wynter Beck (14.9 points and 4.6 assists per game) and Alexandria Clemmons (1.6 points and 1.8 assists per game.) The top scorer off the bench is freshman wing Jamiyah Jones (13.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.)

Head Coach Jarrett Stephens has guided the Southwest men to a 15-11 overall record this season. As the 6th seed, the Saluqis will play 3rd seed Walters State in a quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 9. 

Projected starters for the Saluqis are sophomore center Jean LaFleur (14.2 points and 9.1 rebounds per game), sophomore forwards Alex Vandenbergh (16.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game) and LaCurtis Dunn (9.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game), sophomore guard Cameron Donegan (3.6 points and 3.3 assists per game) and freshman guard JaCory Dixon (7.6 points and 2.3 assists per game.) Top scorers off the bench include freshman guard Eric Jones (9.1 points per game), freshman forward Tyson Jones (9.0 points per game), and freshman guard Reese Snellman (5.5 points per game).

Tournament champions advance to the NJCAA Division 1 National Tournament. The men’s tournament will be held on March 22-29 in Hutchinson, Kansas and the women’s tournament on March 25-April 1 in Casper, Wyoming.
