Saluqis start new year with impressive wins

Trotter becomes Southwest’s first soccer all-American
Sophomore middle defender Anna Trotter, who led the Lady Saluqis' soccer team to back-to-back TCCAA runners-up, was named honorable mention NJCAA All-American, becoming the conference's first such honoree in the sport of soccer.
Trotter, who was also selected first team All-TCCAA and TCCAA Most Valuable Player in a vote by the conference's coaches, scored five goals (including game-winning goal) and had one assist.
Lady Saluqi basketball team wins twice to begin 2020
The Southwest women's basketball team began the new year with wins over ASU Mid-South (72-61 on January 4) and Arkansas Baptist (76-75 on January 7) to improve its record to 9-5 on the season.
Sophomore Derinisha Taylor, who leads the team in scoring with an average of 14.8 points per game, scored 18 points in the win over ASU Mid-South as four players were in double-figures. Other top scorers in the game were freshman Taliyah Brown (16 points), and sophomores Jaelyn Royal (15 points) and Daisha Seltzer (12 points). Sophomore Jessica Neal added nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Seltzer scored a season-high 25 points and also had nine rebounds and seven assists to lead the Lady Saluqis past Arkansas Baptist. Other top scorers were Taylor (15 points), Neal (double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds) and freshman Stephanie Gregory (11 points).
Griffith leads Saluqis past Missouri State-West Plains
Sophomore guard Clythus Griffith scored a season-high 31 points to lead the Southwest men's basketball team to a 84-75 win over the host school Missouri State-West Plains on Jan. 3 in the West Plains Classic. Griffith, who leads the team in scoring this season with an average of 15.8 points per game, made 11 of his 19 shots from the field and 9 of 10 free throws. Sophomore forward Anthony Whitmore added 14 points on 6 of 7 shooting and sophomore guards Justin Batts and Josh Kelly had nine points each.
Christian Jones records triple-double
Sophomore guard Christian Jones recorded a "triple-double" in the Saluqis' overtime loss to Arkansas Baptist on Jan. 4 in the West Plains Classic in West Plains, Missouri. Jones scored 15 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists in 42 minutes of action. On the season, Jones is the Saluqis' second leading scorer at 14.4 points per game and leads the team with 4.9 assists per game.
