Saluqi sports bring in the new year with a bang

Congratulations to sophomore forward Mason Matthews who was named the TCCAA /Region 7 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for December 11-17, 2022. Mason averaged 15 points and 17 rebounds in the Saluqis' win over Tennessee Prep and Shorter including a career high 20 rebounds in the Tennessee Prep game.
In the men's game, six players scored in double figures and three had at least 20 points in the Saluqis' 108-67 win. Decoreio Smith led with 22 points while Mason Matthews (21) and Nick Woodard (20) also had 20+. Woodard and Matthews also recorded double-doubles with 12 and 11 rebounds respectively. Other top scorers were Kamrin Jones (11), Gabriel Kincy (11) and Marcotis Hall (10).
Women’s Basketball
In their first games of the new year, the Southwest men's and women's basketball teams swept Shorter College on Jan. 4, 2023 at the Verties Sails Gymnasium.
CorTayza Flowers scored 24 points and Trinity Taylor had a near triple-double with 18 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds to lead the Lady Saluqis to a 74-63 victory. Cailynn Knox posted her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Kailyn Anderson added 12 points and 5 assists.
