The Southwest Foundation hosted its traditional annual donor appreciation reception Dec. 8, 2022. The time-honored event celebrates community partners and individual donors who have supported students along their academic journey to achieve their goals through various scholarships and institutional fundraising.
Southwest President Dr. Tracy D. Hall welcomed the donors who have generously supported and committed to the Foundation. “The barrier and obstacles most of our students face are financial,” she said. “What you do in providing financial resources to our students is an appreciation that words cannot adequately describe. Our being here today is a small gesture of our thanks for your gifts of good faith in our students and in the work we do.”
Keynote speaker, alumnus and retired Director of Advising and Academic Support Ronald Claxton spoke to guests about what it meant to be a recipient of the Foundation’s generosity.
“Having the opportunity to attend Southwest as a student and later as an employee for many years, is a blessing. I can attest to receiving donor funds for books and other necessities that were critical to completing my courses. I’m excited to be able to thank you now in person. Because of you, I was able to finish my degree and matriculate into the college where I can now help other students reach their academic success through breaking barriers and keeping hope alive,” Claxton said. Claxton received his A.A.S. degree in applied science in 1984.
