FROM THE PRESIDENT
Greetings, Southwest Family!
Another academic year has come to a close at Southwest. As each year ends, I am constantly reminded of our students' and employees' outstanding accomplishments. For example, Southwest conferred more than 1200 degrees this year! I applaud our students’ relentless commitment to completing their degrees. You’ve earned your degree, and we can’t wait to see what you accomplish next!
This institution wouldn’t be where it is today without the hard work of our outstanding faculty and fantastic staff. Your passion for our students is the key to making a difference in the communities we serve. Thank you for focusing your efforts on our students and their continued success.
In April, we celebrated the launch of the Southwest Workforce Solutions Center. The Southwest Workforce Solutions Center provides students with seamless career pathways between non-credit and credit courses through responsive, in-demand career-technical education. We held an open house and career fair on the Macon Cove Campus to celebrate and communicate this accomplishment with our communities. I’m sure you remember it well! The open house started with a panel discussion by industry leaders, followed by tours of our state-of-the-art facilities and mobile career exploration labs, a national signing day for career-tech majors and a community career fair with Mid-South businesses. The open house and career fair were a huge success! We were honored to have BlueOval City, The Carter Malone Group, Gates Foundation, MLGW, Tennessee Valley Authority and The Southwest Foundation sponsor the event. Thanks to all the Southwest employees that worked countless hours to launch our Southwest Workforce Solutions Center of Memphis and the Mid-South!
For those who may not know, July 13th is the beginning of my 8th year at Southwest! I’m honored to be your President, and it is such a privilege to serve Southwest's students, employees and communities. I am committed to continuing the work of Achieving the Dream and Reimagining Community College initiatives to make this a better institution for our students and the communities we serve. I celebrate every day I am here and am genuinely excited about the great things we will accomplish in the coming years!
Thank you for your continued support of Southwest!
