Congratulations to the newest members of Southwest’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success! Fifty-five inductees were announced at a virtual graduation ceremony hosted by the Office of Student Development June 3, 2021. The chapter also bestowed awards to faculty and administration for their outstanding contributions to the College and support of students.
The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) is an organization that provides students with a life-changing leadership program that empowers them to be successful, positive role models and leaders in the classroom and in their communities. Southwest established its chapter last year to provide additional opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills and advance their academic and professional goals. Each inductee had to complete a five-step program to qualify for membership.
During the ceremony, keynote speaker Carlos Smith, director of Institutional Effectiveness, said that leadership is only limited by your imagination, time and attitude and posed those three attributes as guidelines for students to dream and plan the possible. “Serve when asked, lead when possible, consult when you can and never be brass or boastful,” Smith said. “Always count it a blessing when people choose to follow you and place their trust in you. You never want to lose the common touch and each of us has enough room where we can play our part to assist each other.”
Congratulations to the 2021 NSLS Inductees and Award Winners!
