THEC student representative nominations due Sept. 20
By Diana Fedinec
Are you a Southwest student interested in sharing the College’s student perspective with the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), Southwest’s governing body? You can represent the voices and votes of student accross as a Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) student representative.
Each year one nominee is selected from the TBR system of colleges across the state to serve in this capacity for a one-year term as required by statute (TCA 49-7-204 (c)). The student representative must be a resident of Tennessee and is expected to attend each of its quarterly meetings and committee meetings as a full, voting member of the Commission. They must also be available to travel throughout the state in fulfillment of their duties. Students must be currently enrolled at the time they are appointed to the position.
“Serving as a THEC Student representative is a special honor and a tremendous opportunity for students to provide input on higher education policy decisions impacting the college and their student experience,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Jacqueline Faulkner. “It’s a valuable learning experience where they can hone their leadership skills, make connections with other students from across the state and build their resume. I encourage our students to consider applying for this esteemed position.”
