Policy Matters: Policies crafted to minimize cost of textbooks and much more
Three policies that impact students are in this spotlight this month. They are the Costs of Textbooks, Student Conduct and Disciplinary Sanctions, and Retention and Progression Standards policies. Southwest also has a new Minors on Campus policy in time for the fall semester.
Cost of Textbooks Policy
The purpose of the new Cost of Textbooks policy is to establish procedures to minimize the cost of materials used by students while also maintaining academic freedom for faculty.
Updated Student Conduct and Disciplinary Sanctions Policy
The revised Student Conduct and Disciplinary Sanctions policy refreshes procedures for working with students to promote a safe and productive experience for everyone on campus.
Updated Retention and Progression Standards Policy
The College’s updated Retention and Progression Standards policy, which is based on a similar TBR regulation, now states that the minimum grade point average or GPA to remain in good academic standing is 2.0.
Minors on Campus Policy
Southwest has established a new policy that provides guidance for working with and protecting minors who are on our campus for planned programs such as camps. Southwest faculty and staff should thoroughly review the Minors on Campus policy as it not only contains helpful information for planning events, but also details the College's responsibilities to the children who visit our locations. Director of Admissions Annie Moss is the College's programs for minors on campus coordinator mentioned in the policy.
Tennessee Board of Regents provides online training for this new policy. Click the training titles to enroll in the Minors on Campus and Minors on Campus-Training for Covered Adults webinars.
